Hutchinson CC Sports Information

No. 22-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team begins the marathon known as the Jayhawk Conference season on Saturday on the road with a battle against No. 11 Dodge City.

Tipoff is at 1 p.m. at the DC3 Student Activities Center in Dodge City.

The game will be broadcast on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 12:45 p.m. Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) will broadcast the game with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action at 12:45 p.m.

Off to a 5-0 start to the season with five impressive non-conference victories. The Blue Dragons have had a full week off since an 83-65 neutral-court victory against Redlands last Saturday in Great Bend. Freshman guard Kiki Smith earned Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors after a 28-point performance against the Cougars.

The Blue Dragons have held 4 of 5 opponents to less than 30 percent shooting and are fifth in the NJCAA in rebounding at 55.6 boards per game.

Through five games, the Blue Dragons are averaging 93.0 points per game while allowing 52.0 points per game.

Smith is leading Hutchinson in scoring at 18.2 points per game. Monae Duffy is averaging 14.8 points and Hailey Jackson is averaging 13.6 points per game.

Dodge City, the 2023 Jayhawk Conference champion and Region VI Tournament runner-up, has had an equally impressive start with six-straight wins, including three wins over ranked opponents all on the road.

The Conquistadors have also been off for an entire week after a neutral-court victory over Arizona Western (75-54). Saturday's game will be Dodge City's home opener.

Dodge City is second in the NJCAA in 3-point shooting with 12.5 makes from beyond the arc per game. The Conquistadors are 11th in 3-point efficiency at 39.5 percent. Parris Atkins is averaging 15.0 points per game, while returning sophomore Paris Santacaterina, the league's Week 1 Player of the Week, is averaging 14.0 points per game.

Saturday's matchup is the is the 105th in series. The Blue Dragons lead the all-time series 74-30, but Dodge City swept the season series. Last season's 69-35 win over Hutchinson at the Sports Arena was Dodge City's largest margin of victory over the Blue Dragons in series history.
