Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team was picked to finish second this season after the Jayhawk Conference Division I Coaches Poll was released.

This is the 15th time in 17 seasons under head coach John Ontjes that the Blue Dragon women were picked either first or second in the KJCCC preseason coaches' poll.

The Blue Dragons finished last season 23-8 and were fourth in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutchinson was upset in the Region VI Tournament quarterfinals by Coffeyville.

Ontjes, now 446-96 entering his 17th season, returns two starters from last season – point guard Journey Armstead and forward Monae Duffy. Four total players return from last season with guards Bree Horyna and Brynne McCormick also returning.

Butler is the preseason pick to win the 2024 Jayhawk Conference title. After Hutchinson, the coaches' poll has Barton, Dodge City and Coffeyville rounding out the Top 5.

The Blue Dragons open the season on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 for the BSN Tipoff Classic. Hutchinson plays Eastern Oklahoma State and NEO in the Classic.

Hutchinson has a home scrimmage coming up. The Dragons play Tabor College at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
