After receiving an opening-round bye, the No. 25-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team opens the 2022 postseason with a Region VI Tournament quarterfinal matchup against the Dodge City Conquistadors.

Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sports Arena. The winner advances to meet the Seward County/Colby winner in the second semifinal at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina.

The 2022 Jayhawk Conference co-champion Blue Dragons (25-5) finished the regular season winning 12 of their final 13 games and claimed a share of a third-straight Jayhawk Conference championship. The league title was the 10th in the John Ontjes era and the 12th in program history.

Hutchinson clinched its share of the 2022 title with a 55-51 win at Garden City last Wednesday. Mya Williams scored a game-high 19 points and became the Blue Dragon all-time freshman scoring leader to lead the Blue Dragons. Kalyn Ervin finished with 11 points.

Dodge City (19-12) got 27 points on 6 of 12 3-pointers from Krystina Hagood to defeat Cloud County 70-62 on Saturday night in a Region VI opening-round matchup. Hagood added eight rebounds. Bree Stephens had 13 points and nine rebounds as Dodge City held Cloud County to 30.9 percent shooting.

Hutchinson swept the season series with Dodge City this season, winning two very different types of games.

The Blue Dragons blew out Dodge City 78-45 on December 11 at the Sports Arena, but had to hold on for a 76-73 victory on Feb. 9 at Dodge City.

Hutchinson will make its 36th Region VI Tournament quarterfinal appearance on Tuesday night. The Blue Dragons are 19-16 all-time in the Region VI Quarterfinals. This will be the seventh all-time Region VI Tournament matchup between Hutchinson and Dodge City, the first since 1985. The Dragons own a 4-2 postseason series advantage.
