After her spectacular week where she averaged 33.0 points per game, Hutchinson Community College freshman guard Mya Williams was named the NJCAA Division I National Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The freshman from Waxahachie, Texas, became the first Blue Dragon to earn national weekly honors since Cynthia Petke on December 3, 2014.

Williams, the Jayhawk Conference's leading scorer, carried the Blue Dragons to two victories over Dodge City and Colby last week. For the week, she averaged 33.0 points per game while shooting 70 percent from the field and 78.6 percent (11 3-pointers) from long range.

Williams had 29 points in a road victory at Dodge City, and then tied for the fifth-highest individual output in Blue Dragon history with 37 points against Colby. Williams tied a career high with seven 3-pointers and established a new career high with eight rebounds in the Colby game.

What's more astounding about Williams week was what she produced in just the fourth quarter of the Dodge City game and first quarter of the Colby game. Williams, in those two quarters, combined for 36 points (17 vs. Dodge City and 19 vs. Colby) and eight 3-point goals.
