Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team rides a four-game winning streak into Wednesday's Jayhawk Conference matchup with the Barton Cougars at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are more concerned with a current four-game losing streak to the Cougars in the 5:30 p.m. matchup.

Dating back to the 2020 Region VI Tournament semifinals where the Cougars defeated Hutchinson on a buzzer-beater, the Blue Dragons have dropped four-straight to Barton, including a 58-54 loss to Barton on November 27 in Great Bend where the Blue Dragons jumped out to a 10-0 lead.

The Blue Dragons (17-4, 11-4 KJCCC) are in second place in the KJCCC standings, trailing Independence by 1.5 games. Wednesday's game opens a four-game stretch against opponents all in the upper division of the Jayhawk Conference.

Hutchinson comes into Wednesday's game where it shot a season-high 57.4 percent in an 83-56 road victory over Pratt. Kalyn Ervin, who was named the KJCCC Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, had career highs of 27 points, going 5 of 5 from 3-point range.

Over their four-game winning streak, the Blue Dragons are averaging 75.5 points and shooting 45.1 percent overall and 36.1 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the KJCCC second-ranked Blue Dragons are allowing only 53.0 points and 31.6 percent shooting from the field. The Dragons are forcing 18 turnovers per game.

Barton defeated Cowley 81-61 on Saturday in Great Bend. The Cougars are currently in seventh place in the KJCCC standings, but just 2.5 games out of second place. The Cougars shot 50 percent from the field with nine 3-pointers. Brennan Kirchhoff led four Barton players in double figures with 19 points.

The Blue Dragons are 12-0 at the Sports Arena and are on a 17-game homecourt winning streak dating back to last season.
