LOSEW REGION 6 JAVELIN RUNNER-UP; DRAGONS ADD 3 QUALIFIERS

PRATT – Hutchinson Community College sophomore Jack Losew continued his meteoric rise in the javelin on Friday as the Blue Dragon men's track and field tied are third for third after Day 1 of the 2024 Region VI Outdoor Championship at the Green Sports Complex.

Losew moved up to No. 5 in the NJCAA on Friday with a regional second-place finish. Already qualified for the NJCAA outdoor national championships, Losew threw a personal-best 186 feet, 0 inches (56.69 meters) on Friday. The Blue Dragon sophomores has been a jumps specialist in each of his two seasons, but only started throwing the javelin midway through the 2024 outdoor season.

Losew's eight points was one of four events the Blue Dragons scored in on Friday. Hutchinson and Coffeyville are tied for third after six events with 22 points. Cloud County leads the men's competition with 39 points. Barton is second with 36 points.

The Blue Dragons also picked up three more national qualifiers to raise the season total to 20.

Freshman Farrin Mangelson qualified in the 10,000 meters with a third-place time of 31:49.43 seconds late Friday night. That mark is the third-fastest time in the event in Blue Dragon history.

Sprinter D'Antonio Warren qualified on Friday in both the 100- and 200-meter preliminaries. Warren also qualified for Saturday's finals in both events. He qualified eighth in the 100 with a time of 10.39 seconds, the 10th-fastest Blue Dragon time in team history. Warren qualified sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.18, the eighth-fastest time in Blue Dragon history.

Sophomore Christopher Brown placed fourth in the discus on Friday with a throw of 168-6 inches (51.27m).

The Blue Dragon 4x800 relay team of Titus Kiprotich, Evan Avitia, Christian Darrah and Leo LeGrand played sixth on Friday with a time of 8:04.11.

Sophomore sprinter Ezekiel Seamster earned finals spots in both the 100 and 200 meters. Seamster qualified sixth in the 100 with a PR time of 10.33 seconds, which ties Cordarrelle Patterson for eighth on the Blue Dragon all-time chart. Seamster was fifth in the 200 meters at 21.17 seconds.

Championship Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with field events and Noon for running events in Pratt.
