NEWTON – Posting the second-best single round on a Par 72 course in team history on Monday afternoon, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team built a 31-stroke lead after 36 holes of the 54-hole Jayhawk Conference Championship at Sand Creek Station.

The No 4-ranked Blue Dragons will look to clinch a third-straight Jayhawk Conference men's golf championship in Tuesday's final round, which will be a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start at Sand Creek Station.

The Blue Dragons posted rounds of 287 and 272 on Monday to shoot a 17-under 591 after 36 holes. Dodge City is second at 14-over 590. Garden City is third at 17-over 593.

Entering the Jayhawk Championship, Hutchinson and Dodge City were tied for the season conference lead with 15 points each.

The 272 team score in the second round on Monday was the second-best round on a Par-72 course in team history. Only the 270 team score posted at the 2020 NJCAA National Preview at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, topped Monday's second round.

All-Americans Harry Crockett and Ben Partridge shot rounds of 65 and 67, respectively, to lead the Blue Dragons in the second round. Sophomore Addison Alonzo and freshman Dominic Clemmons both carded 70s. Those four golfers combined for 20 birdies and only four bogeys in the second round.

Led by Crockett's 69 in the first round on Monday, the Blue Dragons opened a 10-stroke lead over Dodge City after 18 holes.

All five Blue Dragon players are in the Top 10 of the individual standings through two rounds.

After shooting 10-under 134 on Monday, Crockett is the individual leader through 36 holes with a five-stroke lead on the field. Crockett had a 14 pars, one eagle, two birdies and a bogey in his opening-round 69. Crockett, the 2021 individual national runner-up, had nine pars, eight birdies and one bogey in his second-round 65.

Partridge is second at 5-under 139. The defending national individual champion had 14 pars, an eagle, one birdie and two bogeys in an even-par 72. Partridge had six birdies and one bogey in his afternoon-round 67.

Partridge is the individual conference season leader with 17 points. Crockett is fourth with 10 points.

Alonzo is fifth at 1-under 143 (73-70). Clemons is tied for seventh at 3-over 147 after rounds of 77 and a season-low 70.

Freshman Blake Saffell is tied for ninth at 4-over 148. Saffel is 12th in the season standings with 4.5 points.
