WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Freshman Blake Saffell was the only Blue Dragon under par on Tuesday as the NJCAA top-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team finished second in the 19-team field at the Midwestern State Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

The Blue Dragons made a late rush and were within one stroke of tournament host and eventual team champion Midwestern State after 14 holes. But Midwestern State closed strong playing 4-under overall the last four holes and wound up defeating the Blue Dragons by 10 strokes (838-848).

This was Hutchinson's 13th-consecutive Top 5 team finish dating back to the start of the 2020-21 fall season.

Saffell's 2-under 69 in the final round led the Blue Dragons, who shot 3-over 287 in the final round. Midwestern State shot 279 on Tuesday. The Blue Dragons also counted Ben Partridge's 72 and 73s by Harry Crockett and Dominic Clemons. The Blue Dragons shot 5-over par over the final four holes on Tuesday.

Crockett was the only Blue Dragon to place in the Top 10 individually this week. After his 2-over 73 in the final round, Crockett tied for seventh at 3-under 210.

Saffell surged into an 11th-place tie with three others golfers at 1-under 212. Saffel's second sub-70 round of the fall season had five birdies and three bogeys included in it.

Also in the 11th-place tie was Partridge, who shot a 72 in the final round.

Clemons finished tied for 33rd at 5-over 218. Addison Alonzo had a tough round at 9-over 80 on Tuesday. He finished tied for 54th 224.

Blue Dragon individual Cameron Rios-Ceballos carded a final-round 77 to finish at 217 and tied for 30th.

Hutchinson will have a couple of weeks off before playing its final tournament of the fall season at the NJCAA National Preview on November 4-5 in Odessa, Texas.
