The surging Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team looks to continue its roll on Monday night with a road trip to meet the Pratt Beavers.

The No. 19 Blue Dragons and the Beavers tip off at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena. This game was originally scheduled for January 22, but was postponed.

The Blue Dragons had a strong final 5 minutes in a 75-66 road victory at Butler on Friday. That victory secured an opening-round bye for the upcoming Region VI Tournament. Now, with two games remaining in the regular season, the Blue Dragons look to take a step closer to finishing in sole possession of second place. The Dragons were picked to finish fifth in the KJCCC in the preseason coaches' poll.

After an 11-game stretch of going 5-6, the Blue Dragons have rebounded with four-straight victories.

One of the big differences is defense. The Blue Dragons are allowing 86.9 points per game and are allowing 46.8 percent shooting this season. During the current winning streak, the Blue Dragons are allowing only 78.2 points and opponents are shooting only 42.9 percent from the floor.

Pratt has dropped three in a row with all three coming against Jayhawk Conference upper division opponents. The Beavers lost on Saturday at league champion Dodge City 99-82.

The Beavers are sixth in the KJCCC in scoring and shoot 43.9 percent overall. Defensively, the Beavers are allowing 80.2 points per game.

The Blue Dragons won a high-scoring first meeting with the Beavers, taking a 106-99 decision on November 23 at the Sports Arena. The Dragons were led by Angelo Stuart, who knocked down 5 of 9 3-point goals and finished with a game-high 25 points. Jacquez Yow added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Dragons had 12 3-pointers.

Pratt had six players scoring in double figures led by Nasan Ayala with 18 points. Quintin Metcalf had 17.

Monday's matchup will be the 176th meeting between the Blue Dragons and Beavers. Hutchinson leads the all-time series 149-26. The 149 wins are the most by the Blue Dragons against any single opponent.
