Blue Dragon Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team faces its sixth matchup of a nationally ranked team on Wednesday when the No. 18-ranked Blue Dragons travel to No. 6 Dodge City.

Tipoff for the top two teams in the Jayhawk Conference will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Dodge City Student Activities Center.

Dodge City (20-4) holds a 2.5-game lead over the Blue Dragons (18-5) in the Jayhawk Conference standings. Third-place Garden City is right on the Dragons' tail, just 0.5 games behind.

The Blue Dragons enter Wednesday's game on a two-game losing streak with losses to Cowley and Coffeyville. The Dragons are just 5-5 in their last 10 games, a streak was started with a 102-96 home loss to Dodge City on December 11.

Despite scoring 92.9 points over that 10-game span, the Blue Dragons are in an offensive slump. Over the last 10 games, the Blue Dragons are shooting only 39.0 percent and 28,0 percent from 3-point range and are committing 18.5 turnovers per game.

The Blue Dragons were held to 33.8 percent in an 86-71 loss to Coffeyville on Saturday at the Sports Arena. Angelo Stuart had 21 points to lead the Blue Dragons Saturday. Kobe Campbell had 10.

In order to turn things around, the Blue Dragons take on a Dodge City team on a three-game winning streak with wins over Northwest Tech, Garden City and Butler. The Conquistadors are 11-0 on their home court this season. Dodge City is 7-3 in its last 10 games.

Dodge City has a strong three-headed scoring attack with Kalen Williams (16.5 ppg), Themus Fulks (16.3 ppg) and B.J. Freeman (14.4 ppg).

Fulks and Freeman combined for 44 points in Dodge City's December win at Hutchinson. Williams didn't play in that game, but Mykell Robinson had a game-high 19 points in that first game.

Fulks had 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in Dodge City's last game, an 83-77 win on Saturday at Butler.

Stuart, the Blue Dragons' and KJCCC's leading scorer at 21.3 points per game, is nearing a Blue Dragon single-season record. Stuart has 78 made 3-pointers for the season, which is just four 3-pointers shy of Josh Gonner's 2003 record of 82 treys.
