Hutchinson CC Sports Information

After a 10-1 season, the Hutchinson Community College football team finished third in the final NJCAA Division I Football rankings, which were released on Monday.

The 2023 Jayhawk Conference champion Blue Dragons went through the regular season undefeated and spent 11 weeks at No. 1 before falling to East Mississippi 27-23 in the NJCAA National Semifinals on December 2 at Gowans Stadium.

This is the fifth-straight season the Blue Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the final rankings. Last season, the Blue Dragons were No. 2, in 2021 they were No. 3, in 2020-21 the Blue Dragons were national champions and in 2019 the Dragons were No. 3.

The Blue Dragons are the only team in the nation with five-straight Top 3 finishes in the final poll.

The final poll at Iowa Western at No. 1 and East Mississippi at No. 2. Iowa Western defeated EMCC 61-14 in the national championship game last Wednesday in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The remainder of the Top 5 at Hutchinson, Copiah-Lincoln and Kilgore.

Dodge City closed on a five-game winning streak after its loss to Hutchinson, won the Wool Bowl and finished No. 6 in the final rankings at 8-3. Highland was the final team in the poll at No. 15 after a 6-5 season.

Hutchinson has now been ranked in 32 consecutive NJCAA rankings, the third-longest consecutive run in the national poll in program history. The Blue Dragons were ranked in 45-straight polls from 2010 to 2013 and in 38 consecutive polls from 2018 to 2021.
