Quinn Maher, Cody Gunderson and Mac Bowie all homered and the Hutchinson Community College baseball team had two huge innings to roll to their first win at Hobart-Detter Field on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons defeated the Central Christian College JV 21-10 as 10 different Blue Dragons had at least one hit and nine different Hutchinson players had at least one RBI.

Hutchinson improved to 3-0 and will play Southeast Community College in the final two games of a four-game series on Thursday. Site of the games will be determined on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragons put together a six-run first inning and a 13-run third inning to grab complete control of the game.

Ten batters came to the plate in the first inning. Maher hit a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first to start the inning. Luis Pimentel-Guerrero and David both had RBI singles and Jarrett Herrmann had a sacrifice fly to take a 6-1 lead after one inning.

The Blue Dragons sent 18 batters to the plate in the third inning. The 13 runs scored tied for the second-biggest single inning, matching 13-run innings in 2016 against Independence, Neosho County in 2018 and Butler in 2019.

Gunderson hit a line-drive grand slam to left field to give the Dragons a 13-3 lead. Later in the third, Bowie hit a two-run home run down the right field line. The Blue Dragons took advantage of two Tiger errors, two walks and three hit batsmen in the inning.

The Blue Dragons had a season-high 18 hits led by Cymbalista and Davis with three hits each.

Cymbalista was 3 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Davis had a single-game career high three hits. He had two RBIs and scored two runs. Eli Arends entered the game in the third inning and went 2 for 2 with a pair of singles.

Gunderson had a game-high four RBIs with his grand slam. Mayer, and Herrmann had two RBIs each. Mayer now has two home runs and eight RBIs in the first three games of the season.

The Blue Dragons reached 20 runs for the first time since scoring 24 runs against the Sterling College JV on April 24, 2023.

The Blue Dragons were hit by eight pitches, which is the second most in single-game history. Vassart tied a single-game record getting hit by pitches in three different plate appearances.

Five Blue Dragon pitchers struck out a season high 13 batters on Tuesday.

Sean Combs pitched 2 1-3 innings to earn his first win. Combs worked out of a jam in the second inning with a strikeout and line-drive double play. He struck out three and allowed one run and one hit. Ashton Perkins closed the game out with two perfect innings, which included five-straight strikeouts.
