For the second-straight season, the Hutchinson Community College baseball team opens its postseason march in Fort Scott.

The 11th-seeded Blue Dragons (30-26) play the sixth-seeded Greyhounds (35-21) in the opening game of the best-of-3 Region VI Tournament Opening-Round series.

Game 1 of the series at Lions Field in Fort Scott is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Game will 2 on Thursday and Game 3, if necessary, on Friday. All games are scheduled for 1 p.m. All games will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

Hutchinson enters the Region VI Tournament winning three games in a row after losing the series opener against Colby in extra innings last Thursday. The Dragons rallied from four runs down to defeat Colby 8-7 in the final game of the regular season on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Blue Dragons finished tied for fifth in the Jayhawk Conference with an 18-14 record. The Dragons were one of six teams in the Jayhawk West with winning records within league play.

The Dragons bring a .298 team batting average into the series with Fort Scott. Averaging 7.37 runs per game. The Dragons hit 62 home runs this season, fifth-most in the KJCCC, but fourth most in the Jayhawk West.

Hutchinson has a team ERA of 6.09 and allows 6.29 runs per game.

Fort Scott is the top home-run hitting team in the league with 127 and owns the top-two home runners in the KJCCC this season. Sophomore Brody Szako has 25 home runs and Jaret Nelson has 21 homers.

The Greyhounds have a 7.15 team ERA.

Fort Scott had a 14-game winning streak heading into the final weekend of the regular season, but lost 3 of 4 to Cowley. The Greyhounds finished third in the Jayhawk East this season with a 19-13 record.

The series features 2 of the top 3 hitters in the KJCCC this season.

Hutchinson's Will Edmunson leads the Jayhawk with a .462 batting average. The sophomore right-fielder has 92 total hits with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. Fort Scott's Szako is third in the KJCCC in hitting with a .442 batting average. He also leads the Jayhawk with 75 RBIs.

The Blue Dragons are 11-20 in road games this season. Fort Scott is 25-12 at Lions Field.

One year ago, the Blue Dragons went into Lions Field and swept Fort Scott in the opening-round series. Hutchinson won 10-7 and 10-2 to advance to the Plains District Championship in 2022. The Blue Dragons went 2-2 in the Plains District Tournament.

The Hutchinson-Fort Scott winner will play the Allen-Butler series winner at the Plains District Tournament, which begins Wednesday, May 17 at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
