The Hutchinson Community College baseball team closed the 2023 regular season with a doubleheader sweep and series victory over the Colby Trojans on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.

After Ethan Giesbrecht twirled a complete-game shutout and the Dragons hit three home runs in a 15-0 run-rule victory in Game 1, Hutchinson had to rally from four runs down after sixth inning to walk off the Trojans 8-7 in Game 2.

The Blue Dragons finish the regular season 30-26 overall and tied Dodge City for fifth place in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons will open the Region VI Tournament on the road with a best-of-3 series at Fort Scott beginning Wednesday.

GAME 2 RECAP
The Blue Dragons trailed 7-3 after 6 1/2 innings before the series finale comeback started.

Hutchinson scored two unearned runs with two-out RBI singles by A.J. Mustow and Cooper Wesslund to pull within 7-5. Will Edmunson tied the game at 7-all with a two-run home run to center in the eighth inning.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Wesslund was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Wesslund scored the winning run after scoring from second on Colby's fifth error of the game..

The Blue Dragons were out-hit 14-8 in Game 4.

Edmunson went 2 for 5 with his 10th home run of the season. He scored two runs and had two RBIs.

Cody Gunderson hit a solo home run and double, going 2 for 5 with two runs and an RBI.

Blake Bradford was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.

Brady Beverman pitched the final two innings to earn the victory and run his record to 2-3. Beverman allowed two hits and no runs with two strikeouts.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Blue Dragons had five-run innings in the first, second and fourth innings to back Giesbrecht's complete-game shutout.

Giesbrecht (4-2) allowed just two hits and struck out six with no walks. He allowed a second-inning double and had two runners in the fourth inning.

Five different Blue Dragons had multiple RBI games.

Gunderson and Mustow had three hits each.

Mustow went 3 for 4 with a doble, two runs and an RBI. Gunderson was 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Max Childress was 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Bradford hit a three-run home run in the fourth. Jack Gardner had a two-run homer in the first inning. Ryan Henderson had a two-run double in the second inning.
