DRAGON BATS GO SILENT IN PAIR OF LOSSES TO DODGE CITY

DODGE CITY – Blue Dragon bats mustered a total of just seven hits as Dodge City swept the Hutchinson Community College baseball team in the final two game of a Jayhawk West series on Saturday at Cavalier Field.

The Conquistadors defeated the Blue Dragons 7-2 and 1-0 on Saturday to take 3 of 4 games in the conference-opening series. Hutchinson falls to 10-11 overall and 1-3 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson opens a series with Pratt on Thursday in Pratt. Dodge City improved to 9-13 overall and 3-1 in the league. 

The Dragons lost their first series to Dodge City since 1993.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Blue Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Cooper Wesslund reached on an error, was sacrificed to second by Blake Bradford, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch.

The rest of the game didn't go so well at the plate. Ryan Henderson had two singles. Cole Gunderson and Jack Gardner had the other hits. The Dragons had seven other baserunners via walk, hit-by-pitch or error.

The only run for the Dragons came on the fifth when Blake Bradford walked and later singled on Gunderson's single. That cut the Dodge City led to 6-1.

Ethan Giesbrecht (0-1) started and was the losing pitcher for the Blue Dragons. Giesbrecht went 3 2-3 innings and allowed four hits and six runs with two strikeouts and two walks. 

Michael Uhler worked two innings and Kaden Wickersham worked 1-3 inning.

Dodge City had seven total hits.

GAME 2 RECAP
Dodge City starter Michael DeBautista didn't allow his first hit of the game until there were one out in the sixth inning. DeBautista struck out 10 in his seven innings of work.

Blue Dragon starter Cole Toreau was matching DeBautista pitch for pitch through six shutout innings. 

The Conquistadors got back-to-back singles to start the seventh and the Dragons went to the bullpen. The only run of the game came with two outs on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Cooper Schneider. 

Toreau (0-5) went a season-high 6 1-3 inning, striking out a season-high seven batters. He allowed five hits, one earned run and walked one. 

Jackson Blue went 1-3 inning and Reed Scott went 1 1-3 inning.
