COFFEYVILLE – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team was one inning away from a series victory over Coffeyville on Saturday, but the Red Ravens rallied in the bottom of the ninth in the final game of the series to sweep a doubleheader at Walter Johnson Park.

The Blue Dragons lost 8-1 and 5-4 in a walkoff for the Ravens on Saturday to split the four-game series 2-2. The Dragons swept Coffeyville 8-7 and 8-2 on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Blue Dragons are now 9-8 as they open conference play next week. The schedule for the Jayhawk West series with Dodge City has been changed. The first two games of the series will be at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field and the final two games will be on Wednesday at Cavalier Field in Dodge City.

GAME 2 RECAP
Playing catchup all day long, the Blue Dragons finally took a lead in the top of the ninth when with two on and two out, sophomore Christian Powell laced a two-run double to score Jon Davis and Colin Cymbalista to give Hutchinson a 4-3 lead.

The Blue Dragons weren't able to hold on in the bottom of the ninth as Coffeyville started its final at-bat with back-to-back walks and a sacrifice bunt. The Dragons were an out away from the victory after Powell threw out a Raven at the plate for the second out. But Carson Schrack laced a walkoff two-run single into left field to end the game.

Reed Scott (1-1) suffered the loss for the Blue Dragons, going 1 2-3 innings. Ethan Giesbrecht threw three shutout innings in his first career start. The Blue Dragon bullpen allowed five hits and five runs, only one earned in six combined innings.

The Blue Dragons were limited to just five hits in the game. Powell was 2 for 3 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs to lead the Blue Dragon offense. Adam Mustow, Jack Gardner and Cymbalista all had hits. Cymbalista had a double.

The Blue Dragons trailed 2-0 after four innings and tied the game in the fifth. Powell lifted a sacrifice fly to left and Blake Bradford had an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

Sophomore right fielder Will Edmunson went 0 for 4 to snap his hitting streak at 16 games, which ties Brock Schaefer and Ben McLaughlin for the fifth-longest hit streak in team history.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Blue Dragons had just five hits in the series opener and didn't score until the sixth inning. By that time the Dragons trailed 6-0

Cooper Wesslund, Edmunson, Davis, and Powell had the Blue Dragon hits. Edmunson tripled up Westlund in the sixth inning to break the shutout.

Coffeyville starter Ricky Hernandez threw a complete game with three strikeouts.

Cole Toureau fell to 0-3 after allowing just one hit, but four runs in 1 1-3 innings. Four Blue Dragon pitchers walked seven and hit two batters.
