Hutchinson Community College baseball players Will Edmunson and Gus McKay earned named Jayhawk West Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after outstanding performances last weekend at Rose State College.

Edmunson, a sophomore outfielder from Luther, Oklahoma, extended his season-opening hitting streak to 12 games with hits in five games over the week for the Blue Dragons.

Edmunson hit .500 (8 of 16) and had an .812 slugging percentage with three multi-hit games this past week. Edmunson scored seven runs and drove in six runs with two doubles and had his third home run. Edmunson also stole four bases to pace the Blue Dragons.

This is Edmunson's second league Player of the Week honor.

Making his third start of the season, Blue Dragon starter Gus McKay (2-0) took a no-hitter through 5 2-3 innings and allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings in the Blue Dragons' 5-2 victory over Rose State.

McKay, a freshman from Odessa, Texas, allowed just one baserunner though the first five innings, a second-inning error. He retired 13 straight batters before Zac Carroll rolled a single up the middle for a hit with two outs in the sixth inning.

McKay allowed a one-out walk and a two-out single in the seventh, but he ended the day with a strikeout of Silas Voegely to end the inning. McKay allowed just two hits over seven innings with four strikeouts and only one walk. McKay threw 95 pitches in the outing.
