ENID, Oklahoma – Trailing by 11 runs after four innings, the Hutchinson Community College baseball team had the tying run on base, but the rally fell short against Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and fell 12-9 to the Jets at Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The Blue Dragons (7-6) open a four-game series against Coffeyville at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field. The opening two games of the series was moved up a day to Wednesday with impending rain on Thursday.

Sophomore Will Edmunson, who earlier on Wednesday was named the Jayhawk West co-Player of the Week, went 3 for 4 with two triples, a double and three RBIs to lead the Blue Dragons offensively. He is the eighth Blue Dragon – the first since Jack Torosian on March 20, 2021 – to have two triples in one game.

Edmunson had a two-run triple to start the Blue Dragon comeback in a three-run fifth inning to cut the NOC lead to 12-4. He had a run-scoring triple and scored a run in the seventh to pull within 12-6. He walked and scored in the Dragons' three-run ninth.

Edmunson extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

NOC-Enid scored all 12 runs in the first four innings. Five Blue Dragon pitchers allowed 14 hits. Sam Wragge (1-1) took the loss in his first career start. Rece Wilson threw two scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout.

Blue Dragon batters had 10 total hits, but struck out a season-high 15 times.

Freshman Cooper Wesslund went 2 for 3 with two walks, three runs, a double and RBI. Wesslund had an RBI single in the first to give Hutchinson a 1-0 lead. No other Dragon had a multi-hit or multi-RBI game. Ryan Henderson had an RBI double in the ninth inning.
