WACO, Texas – The Hutchinson Community College basketball team completed a weekend trip to Texas 1-2 after a one-run loss to No. 3 McLennan College on Sunday.
The Blue Dragons out-hit McLennan 9-5, but stranded eight runners on base in a 6-5 loss.
The Dragons drop to 4-3 for the season. Hutchinson returns to Hobart-Detter Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Tabor College junior varsity on Tuesday.
Hutchinson took a 2-0 lead on Christian Powell's sacrifice fly that scored Cooper Wesslund and a Blake Bradford RBI single. The Dragons made it 3-1 with a single run in the fourth wen Jon Davis moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.
McLennan then scored five unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-3 lead.
The Dragons answered back with two runs in the top of the sixth when Wesslund and Davis both scored on a wild pitch to cut the McLennan lead to 6-5.
Hutchinson stranded one runner in the seventh, two in the eighth and were retired in order in the top of the ninth inning.
Bradford led the Blue Dragons going 3 for 5 with a run batted in.
Davis went 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Christian Powell was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Freshman Cole Toureau took the loss allowing hit hits and three runs over 1 1-3 innings. Gus McKay started and worked the first three innings and allowed two hits and one run.
Sam Wragge pitched one scoreless inning; Brady Beverman tossed two scoreless inning with four strikeouts.
