Hutchinson Community College's Sarah Rothe potentially had the greatest season by a Blue Dragon softball catcher in 2014. Rothe, a freshman from Hutchinson, was named the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation’s NJCAA Division II National Catcher of the Year for her tremendous performance.

Rothe was Hutchinson’s third-leading hitter in 2014, hitting .378 with 48 total hits. Rothe had a team-high 11 home runs and 12 doubles. She drove in 37 RBIs and scored 32 runs. Rothe amassed a .404 on-base percentage and had a .732 slugging percentage.

The HCC freshman catcher’s numbers after March 15: a .427 batting average with 38 hits, including 10 home runs and nine doubles, 29 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .865.

She became the first Blue Dragon softball player in program history to hit three home runs in one game, doing so against Hesston College on March 18, 2014.

Defensively, Rothe turned in an eye-popping season for the 17-25 Blue Dragons.

Rothe had a .991 fielding percentage, committing only two errors in 218 total defensive chances. She threw out 35 percent of would-be basestealers. She threw out 14 basestealers, which was the third most in the nation this past season.

Rothe was also named the NFCA Division II First-Team All-American and an honorable mention All-Jayhawk East selection.
