FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Never mind the placings by the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team on Friday at the University of Arkansas' Chili Pepper Festival, the No. 2-ranked Blue Dragons posted three of the best times in team history, including a shattered school record.
Freshman Serenity Larson smashed Blue Dragon women's cross country 5,000-meter record by 29 seconds to lead the No. 2-ranked Blue Dragons in the college division of the Chili Pepper Festival.
The Blue Dragons were placed in the college 5K division with some of the top NCAA Division I teams in the nation competing. The Dragons finished 27th overall with 710 points, but 7 of the 9 Hutchinson runners posted career-best times at 5,000 meters.
Leading the way was Larson, who ran a school-record time of 18 minutes, 12.1 seconds. Larson finished 83rd overall.
Larson broke the 2018 school record of 18:29.1 set by Lisayo Ewoi at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Larson, who ran the second-fastest Blue Dragon 5K time two weeks ago at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska, beat that time by 29 seconds on Friday.
All-American third-year sophomore Louise Cocking posted the third-best time in Blue Dragon history with a career-low time of 18:45.9. That time was 11 seconds better than her career best as a Blue Dragon. Cocking placed 139th overall.
Freshman Taylor Hoskinson ran the sixth-best Blue Dragon time in program history of 19:14.5, topping her career-best 5K time by 25 seconds. Hoskinson placed 176th on Friday.
Freshman Gracie Lambert was 200th overall with a time of 19:29.7. Lambert already owns the 14th-best Blue Dragon time in program history.
Hutchinson's fifth runner was freshman Ellie Van Zelfden who beat her best 5K time by 51 seconds, running a 20:25.1 to places 233rd on Friday.
Freshman Adaline Fulmer was 247th with a career-best time of 20:55.8, which was 22 seconds faster than her previous best time.
Sophomore Courtney Baetz knocked 44 seconds off her best career time with a 21:23.9. Baetz was 257th.
Freshman Lauren Aiden places 262nd with a time of 21:47.5, two seconds faster than her best time.
Freshman Daisy Orozco ran her first career 5K race and ran 22:01.8 to finish 265th.
Sophomore Aidyn White ran a career-best 23:41.2, knocking off 61 seconds off her best time ever to place 274th.
Arkansas' Isabel Van Camp was the individual winner with a time of 15.58.0. Arkansas also won the team championship with 29 points.
The Blue Dragons next compete at the Ollie Isom Classic on Friday, October 14 in El Dorado.
