Dekyra Dennis is in her second season as an assistant coach with the Blue Dragon Volleyball program. Hutchinson is Dennis’ first collegiate coaching position.

Dennis is very familiar with Blue Dragon head coach Delice Downing after playing on a pair of NJCAA Division II national championship teams for Downing at Coffeyville Community College in 2017 and 2018.

Dennis was the Red Ravens’ starting setter on both national championship teams. Dennis earned a pair of NJCAA and AVCA All-America honors at Coffeyville as well as KJCCC Setter of the Year and all-Jayhawk Conference and All-Region VI honors.

At Coffeyville, Dennis registered a Red Raven career record 3,156 set assists with 602 career digs and 64 career service aces. Her career mark of 11.85 set assists per set is also a Red Raven record.

After Coffeyville, Dennis transferred to Jackson State University for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Dennis led Jackson State to a 2020 Southwest Athletic Conference and SWAC Postseason Tournament titles to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament in April of 2021.

On November 2, 2021, Dennis was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as one of 21 recipients of the distinguished AVCA Diversity Award.

Born October 23, 1999 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dennis is a 2017 graduate of Memphis Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

She graduated from Coffeyville Community College in 2019 with an Associate of Arts degree and from Jackson State University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Spanish.

Her hobbies include scrapbooking, spending time with family and friends, riding horses and four-wheelers and playing volleyball.
