DEAN, SERRANO EARN JAYHAWK WEEKLY VOLLEYBALL HONORS

Freshman middle Anna Dean and sophomore setter Andrea Serrano had exceptional weeks to lead the Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team to an 8-0 record last week.

The Blue Dragon duo on Tuesday were named the Jayhawk Conference's Division I Volleyball Player and Setter of the week.

Dean, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Oswego, had a huge SOCO Classic over the weekend.

For the week, Dean hit .511 with 2.00 kills and 1.04 blocks per set. In the four matches at the SOCO Classic, Dean, over 15 sets, had 2.20 kills per set on .588 hitting.

She had season highs with 10 kills each against Frank Phillips and Clarendon. She also averaged 1.44 blocks per set.

Serrano posted three double-doubles and as the No. 1 setter in Hutchinson's 6-2 offense, she averaged 6.67 assists in an 8-0 week for the Blue Dragons.

Serrano, a 5'4 sophomore from Arecibo, Puerto Rico posted a career-high 18 digs in a four-set victory over the Bethel College Junior Varsity. In the SOCO Classic over the weekend, Serrano 6.00 assists and 4.80 digs per set. Serrano had a weekly high of 30 assists in a four-set win over Frank Phillips.

Dean and Serrano are the second and third Blue Dragon players to earn KJCCC Weekly honors. Last week, outside hitter Baylee Miller was named the league's Player of the Week.

The No. 13 Blue Dragons travel to No. 17 Seward County on Wednesday.
