Hutchinson CC Sports Information

TOPEKA - Hutchinson Community College freshman distance runner Serenity Larson earned her first career national qualification on Friday on Day 1 of the Washburn Open at the Washburn University Indoor Athletic Facility.

The freshman from Dodge City finished sixth in the 5,000 meters with a national-qualifying time of 18 minutes, 53.82 seconds. That time is the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history.

The Blue Dragons had two national qualifiers on Friday to bring their season total up to six.

Hutchinson's Distance Medley Relay team placed seventh on Friday with a time of 13:05.36. The relay team of Ellie Van Zelfden, Kaylee James, Gracie Lambert and Taylor Hoskinson posted the fourth-best time in Blue Dragon indoor history. James, Lambert and Hoskinson have also qualified for nationals in individual events this season.

Freshman Liberty Limon finished second in the high jump, clearing 5-1.25 (1.56m) in a jump-off for second play. Limon tied for the 11th-best high jump in Blue Dragon indoor history.

Day 2 of the Washburn Invitational begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
