GARDEN CITY – The Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team closed out a ninth-place performance in the Region VI Outdoor Track and Field championships eight individuals or relays scoring on the final day of competition Saturday at Broncbuster Stadium.

The Blue Dragons scored 34 team points in the 2022 outdoor championships. Cloud County won the team championship with 173 points. Barton was second with 151 points and Cowley was third with 76 points.

The Blue Dragons will have eight qualifiers for the 2022 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be May 19-21 at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson.

Leading the way for the Blue Dragons on Saturday was sophomore Noel Buckhaults, who finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She posted a time of 13 minutes, 3.81 seconds. The Blue Dragons scored nine points in the steeplechase. Freshman Sydney Grauer was sixth with a personal-record time of 13:55.74.

All-American Violet Martinez placed fourth in the pole vault. Already a national qualifier, Martinez cleared 10 feet, 4.5 inches on Saturday.

All-American Louise Cocking placed in two events on Saturday. Her best finish was fourth place in the 1,500 meters after a time of 5:12.78. Cocking was eighth in the 5,000 meters after posting a time of 20:35.46.

A pair of Blue Dragons relays placed sixth in regionals.

Hutchinson's 4x100-meter relay team of Ashliona Martin, Courtney Baetz, McKenna Gray and Keneah Romney finished shits in 51.85 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Romney, Buckhaults, Grauer and Anastasia Meyer was sixth in 4:30.21.

Meyer, individually, placed eighth in the 800 meters with a tie of 2:34.67.
