With three national qualifications under her belt, sophomore distance runner Louise Cocking leads the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team into the Region VI Indoor Championships this weekend.

The 2022 Region VI Championships will be Saturday and Sunday at Pittsburg State University's Plaster Center.

The Blue Dragons are ranked 19th in the latest NJCAA indoor rankings and are fifth in the Central District rankings. Hutchinson has four national qualifiers so far in the indoor season.

Cocking, the Blue Dragons' first-team cross country All-American, has qualified for the NJCAA Indoor Championships in the Mile run, 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs.

Cocking is ranked eighth in the NJCAA in the 3,000 meters after posting a time of 10:36.98 in the All-Kansas Invitational on January 22. Cocking is 10th in the Mile run after a time of 5:19.19 in the Herm Wilson Invitational on Feb. 4. She is 13th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:56.51, which was set at the KJCCC Invitational.

All-American pole vaulter Kianna Brown is the only other Blue Dragon to punch a ticket to nationals in March. She is fifth in the NJCAA in the pole vault 10 feet, 4 inches.

The Blue Dragon throwers are with striking distance of qualifying for nationals. Sophomore Lushous Davis is ranked 20th in the eight throw (44-5.25). Patrisha Doll is 24th in the NJCAA in the weight throw (43-7.75) and 27th in the shot put (36-6.75). Hannah Schrock is 29th in the weight throw (41-1).
