RODRIGUEZ NOTCHES PAIR OF NATIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS

LAWRENCE – Hutchinson Community College sophomore thrower Alex Rodriguez punched her ticket to the NJCAA Indoor National Championships not just once, but twice on Friday at the Jayhawk Classic.

Rodriguez qualified for both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw in a great day at Anschutz Sports Pavilion. Her performance on Friday now give the Blue Dragon women three total qualifiers for the indoor national championships next month in Lubbock, Texas.

Rodriguez started the day with a third-place finish in the weight throw with a best throw of 49 feet, 10 inches. Several hours later, Rodriguez posted a PR in the shot put with a top distance of 40 feet, 6 3/4 inches. Rodriguez's mark is the 10th best indoor shot put in Blue Dragon women's history.

The Blue Dragons had three other Top 10 finishes in Lawrence on Friday.

+ Freshman Saw Ahmara placed seventh in the evening session 800 meters with a time of 2:31.69.

+ Sophomore Maggie Lambert placed ninth in the evening session 1,000 meters with a time of 3:17.10.

+ Freshman Aileen Gonzalez was ninth in the evening 3,000 meters, posting a time of 11:34.12.

+ Freshman Sarah Patteson placed 10th in the morning session one-mile run with a time of 5:47.97.

The Blue Dragons will compete in their fourth indoor meet of the season at the Fred Beile Classic on Saturday, February 3 in Crete, Nebraska.
