GREAT BEND – The No. 18-ranked Barton Cougars scored two second-half goals to break and scoreless halftime and send the 17th-ranked Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 defeat in a battle of the top two teams in the Jayhawk West on Saturday at Cougar Field.

Shut out for only the second time this season, Hutchinson and Barton are once again tied for the Jayhawk West standings with 30 points. Hutchinson is 13-3 overall and 10-3 in the league. The Dragons have completed the regular season. Barton is 10-2 in league play with one more conference game to play on Monday against Johnson County.

The Blue Dragons were outshot 19-5 and only had one shot taken in the second half off a Hadlie Lowe breakaway, which Barton goalkeeper Nia Baker saved.

Both goals by the Cougars were off of free kicks. The game-winner came from Ondine Manceau from just outside the penalty box in the 66th minute. Hinata Kojima scored an insurance goal in the 88th and the second goal from near midfield on a shot was carried in the wind.

Blue Dragon sophomore goalkeeper Madison Quarles suffered her first loss of the season (7-1), but had six saves on the eight shots on goal.

Hutchinson will either be a No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the Region VI Tournament. Pairings will come out after action is completed after Tuesday's matches. The Blue Dragons will play host to an opening-round match on Sunday, October 30 at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
