For the fourth time this season, Hutchinson Community College freshman Riley Wertz was named the Jayhawk Conference's Division I Pitcher of the week.

Wertz continued her strong play out of the Blue Dragon bullpen, early two more victories as Hutchinson swept Barton last Friday in Great Bend.

Wertz, a freshman from Wichita (Maize High School) pitched 7 1-3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out 12 batters.

Wertz had nine strikeouts in 4 2-3 innings in Hutchinson's 8-3 win in Game 2 over Barton.

Wertz is now 8-0 with three saves this season and an 9.63 earned-run average. She has 91 strikeouts in 44 2-3 innings, which ranks second in the KJCCC.

Wertz has also won league honors in Weeks 1, 4 and 8. Wertz was the NJCAA Division I National Pitcher of the week last week.
