STILLWATER, Okla. – Freshman Jared Stark led four runners who broke 28 minutes on one of the toughest courses in college cross country and helped the Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish in the college division of the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday morning.

The 22nd-ranked Blue Dragons posted the fastest average time at the Cowboy Jamboree in several years with an average time of 27 minutes, 40.3 seconds. By comparison, last year's average time in Stillwater was 29:16.2.

The Blue Dragons scored 159 team points to finish fifth. Hutch was the third-highest finishing Jayhawk Conference team.

KCAC power St. Mary's won the men's team race with 45 points. Allen was second with 55 points, followed by Colby (128), Ranger College (143) and the Blue Dragons.

Stark and freshman teammate Connor Kaufman finished 26th and 27th, respectively. Stark's time was 27:23.2. Kaufman was right on his heels at 27:24.2.

Also breaking 28 minutes on the 8K course was freshman Grant Clothier, who ran 27:43.2. Freshman Kade Gerlach was 40th in 27:52.8.

Sophomore Jeremy Stiebens made a 44-second improvement at the Jamboree from last season. Stiebens was the fifth Blue Dragon runner to finish and posted a 48th-place time of 28:03.6.

Other Blue Dragon runners were: Gavin Alexander (53rd, 28:09.4), Alec Perrone (65th, 28:30.8) and Myles Hansen (93rd, 29:41.1).

The Blue Dragons will run on back-to-back weekend for the only time this season. Next Saturday, the Dragons are at the Fort Hays State Invitational in Victoria.
