Hutchinson CC Sports Information

PITTSBURG – Three Blue Dragon pole vaulters scored 11 of the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team's 14 points on Day 1 of the Region VI Indoor Championships at the Plaster Center.

The Blue Dragons are in seventh place after Day 1 of the two-day competition. Cloud County leads the team standings with 37 points. Northwest Tech has 28 points and Barton is third with 27 points.

Simon Steinert led the way for the Blue Dragon pole vaulters with a fourth-place finish at 13 feet, 0.25 inches. Jade Jantzen set a new personal best with a fifth-place finish, also clearing 13-0.25. Brayden Peterson was seventh with a PR of 12-6.75 inches.

The Blue Dragons also scored three team points in the weight throw. Antonio Cooper placed seventh with a PR distance of 46 feet. Cooper led the competition after the first flight. Jobe Fowles placed eighth, hitting his final throw of the finals at 45-7.

Two Blue Dragons advanced to Sunday's finals.

Clyedterrious Thompson qualified sixth for the 60-meter finals on Saturday, posting a time of 6.78 seconds. That time is a PR for Thompson and ties for the fourth-fastest 60-meter time in Blue Dragon indoor history.

Freshman Alexander Holt qualified for the 60-meter hurdle final. Holt was eighth in qualifying with a time of 8.37 seconds, which is just .03 seconds off the national qualifying standard.

Region VI championship day starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Plaster Center.
