Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College men's track and field teams get one more chance to qualify for nationals this weekend at the Region VI Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State University's Plaster Center in Pittsburg.

The Blue Dragon men head into regionals with six national qualifiers. The Blue Dragon men are ranked No. 22 in the national rankings and are ranked eighth in the Central District.

The Blue Dragons have two athletes ranked in the Top 10 and seven in the Top 20 nationally.

Freshman Antonio Cooper, a national qualifier, is sixth in the men's shot put with a best effort of 51 feet, 9.75 set at the All-Kansas Invitational on Jan. 22.

Freshman Dimitre Brown has the ninth-longest long jump of the season of 23-5.5 at the KJCCC Invitational on January 30 at the Plaster Center. He is also qualified for the NJCAA Championships in March.

Collin Oswalt, a two-event individual qualifier, is 15th in the NJCAA in the 5,000 meters (15:09.99) and 27th in the 3,000 meters (8:46.26).

Four other Blue Dragons are ranked in the Top 20, but haven't qualified for nationals.

Simon Steinert is 13th in the NJCAA in the pole vault (13-4.5). Caleb Manning is 16th in the triple jump (46-5.5). Andrei Fuentes ranks 18th in the triple jump (46-2). Jobe Fowles is 17th in the weight throw (47-9.25).

The Blue Dragons have two sprinters qualified in the 60 meters. Clyedterrious Thompson is ranked 25th in the NJCAA in the 60 meters at 6.94 seconds at the All-Kansas Invitational. Donovan Hines is ranked 36th in the NJCAA after posting a time of 6.87 at the WSU-Herm Wilson Invitational.

Hurdler Darrien Holloway is just 0.1 second off the qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles. He ran an 8.25 at the All-Kansas Invitational. Alexander Holt is just 0.2 seconds off the qualifying standard with a best time of 8.36 seconds.
