CASH, SPRINTERS HAVE HUGE DAY AT JAYHAWK CLASSIC

LAWRENCE – Hutchinson Community College hurdlers and sprinters made a statement on Friday at the Jayhawk Classic.

Freshman hurdler Tre'Juan Cash won the Classic's 60-meter hurdles on Friday, while freshman Devon Henderson and sophomore Kadrin Williams posted the top two 60-meter preliminary times and Alex Grays had the top morning performance in the 200 meters.

Those performances led a great day for the seventh-ranked Blue Dragon men, who had seven Top 5 performances on Friday.

Cash started the day by posting the fastest 60-meter hurdle time with a personal best 8.27 seconds. He backed that up with a sizzling 8.16 second pass to win the finals. That mark is the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history and the fourth-fastest time in NJCAA Division I this season.

Blue Dragon sprinters then took over on the Anschutz Sports Pavilion track.

Henderson and Williams finished 1-2 in the 60 meters. Henderson's prelim time was 6.86 seconds and Williams was 6.87 seconds. The Blue Dragon duo was just edged in the finals. Henderson was second in the finals in a time of 6.854 seconds, just ahead of Williams' 6.859 seconds.

Grays then finished off the afternoon session with the top 200 meter time of 22.68 seconds.

The Blue Dragons had two more session wins on Friday.

Freshman Connor Kaufman won the afternoon one-mile run with a time of 4:32.68.

Elijah Smith won the 600-yard run with a time of 1:14.18.

Freshman Richard Newman had another big day. He finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-8 1/4. Newman was fourth in the long jump at 22-9 3/4.

There were other strong performances on Friday for Hutchinson.

+ Denilson Whitmore finished fourth in the afternoon 200 meters in a time of 22.74 seconds.

+ Jason Luft was fifth in the afternoon 1,000 meters in a time of 2:37.15.

The Blue Dragons will complete next at the Fred Beile Classic on Saturday, February 3 in Crete, Nebraska.
