Powered by three runners finishing in the Top 6, the No. 3-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team won both the Region VI and Jayhawk West team championships on Friday at Fun Valley.

The Blue Dragons edged Cloud County for both regional titles, winning the Region VI crown by eight points after scoring 54 points. The Dragons won the league title with 43 points, a seven-point win over the Thunderbirds.

Hutchinson won its first-ever Division I Region VI championship and second overall in program history. The Blue Dragons also won the regional title in 2001 as a Division II program. That team went on to win a national championship. The Dragons also won their second conference title, the first since 2018.

Freshman Serenity Larson led the strong performance by the front of the Blue Dragon lineup. Larson finished in third with a time of 18:49.09 on Fun Valley's 5,000-meter course. Sophomore Louise Cocking posted her best race of the season and finished fourth with a time of 19:00.70. Freshman Taylor Hoskinson crossed the finish line sixth and clocking in at 19:20.58. Freshman Gracie Lambert had a top 20 finish, coming in at 13th with a time of 19:49.14.

Freshmen Courtney Baetz had a career-best time of 20:51.09 and came up big for the Blue Dragons as the fifth runner that counted toward the team score. It was the first time Baetz finished as a Top-5 runner for the Blue Dragons. Baetz finished 30th overall.

Lauren Aden finished 31st with a time of 20:53.73, her career best at 5,000 meters.

Freshman Adaline Fulmer and sophomore Sydney Grauer also ran PRs on Friday. Fulmer finished 35th with a time of 20:57.17 and Grauer finished 36th at 21:01.99.

Freshman Elli Van Zelfden finished in 42nd at 21:11.42, and Daisy Orozco came in at 50th with a time of 21:56.88.

The Blue Dragon women will compete at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida. The championship meet will be on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Apalachee Regional Park with the women's race scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. ET,
