WEATHERFORD, Texas – Taniya Golden posted her sixth double-double of the season and the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team went 1-1 on Day 1 of the Weatherford College Tournament on Friday.
The Blue Dragons won their third five-set match of the season in a 3-2 victory (18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 19-25, 17-15) over Western Texas in the opening match on Friday. The Blue Dragons won a set against No. 2 Navarro but dropped a 3-1 decision (17-25, 25-23, 17-25, 20-25).
The Blue Dragons (8-3) play Eastern Wyoming at 9 a.m. and No. 11 Weatherford at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
WESTERN TEXAS RECAP
Golden had 18 kills and a career-high 15 digs to lead the Blue Dragons in a five-set win over Western Texas. The Blue Dragons are 3-0 in five-set matches this season.
Golden had a huge match adding four total blocks and four service aces to pace the Dragons.
Sophomore Anna Dean had 12 kills, six total blocks and three aces.
Sophomore Ashlyn Long had eight kills.
Sophomore setter Giovanna Ravanhani had 42 assists.
Freshman libero Isabella Rollandini had a match-high 20 digs. Freshman Alondra Velez had 15 digs.
The match was 2 hours, 22 minutes in duration.
NAVARRO RECAP
The Blue Dragons and No. 2 Navarro were tied after two sets before the Bulldogs had learn leads in the final two sets and never relinquished control.
Long led the Blue Dragons with a match-high 12 kills.
Golden closed with 11 kills and two block assists.
Freshman middle McKenzie Murphy had four kills and four total blocks.
Ravanhani had her second double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs. She also had one solo block.
Rollandini had 10 digs and three aces. Velez added nine digs and Dean had a team-high three ace serves.
