The Hutchinson Community College Volleyball team looks to stay within striking distance of the top of the Jayhawk West standings on Saturday with a road trip to Garden City.

The second-place Blue Dragons (24-9) and fifth-place Garden City (18-11) meet for the second time this season at 6 p.m. Saturday at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

Hutchinson and Butler are tied for second in the Jayhawk West with 11-2 records, just one game behind first-place Seward County.

The Blue Dragons come off a three-set sweep of Pratt on Monday. Last Saturday the Blue Dragons defeated Colby in five sets. Those victories secured a home match for the first round of the Region VI Tournament, which starts on November 2.

Hutchinson had to overcome a strong Garden City block in a 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 win over the Broncbusters on September 21 at the Sports Arena.

Garden City had 14 team blocks and held the Blue Dragons to .160 overall hitting in the match, but Hutchinson had 55 kills to the Busters' 48. The Blue Dragons also racked up 11 service aces.

Freshman Taniya Golden led the Blue Dragons with 13 kills on .154 hitting. Freshman Alejandra Briseno had 11 kills on .020 hitting and freshman Anna Dean hit .526 with 11 kills on 19 swings.

Sophomore Sophie Connor had a season-high 21 digs and a block assist to lead the Blue Dragons defensively. Sophomore Morgan Harvey added 18 digs.

Jelena Milovanovic had 15 kills to lead Garden City. Appoline Lepuissant and Fiona Arnold had 12 kills.
