Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Despite a record that's three games under .500, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team is still receiving some national recognition.

The Blue Dragons receive a vote in the latest NJCAA Division I Volleyball national rankings, which were released on Monday.

Hutchinson is 8-11 overall heading into Tuesday night's Jayhawk West match at Dodge City.

Perhaps the reason the Blue Dragons are gaining some national notoriety despite the sub-.500 record is the strength of schedule Hutchinson has played nine teams currently in or have been ranked in the national poll this season.

The biggest Blue Dragon victories are a sweep of No. 14 Mineral Area and a five-set win over then-no. 10 Indian Hills on September 21 at the Sports Arena in the Blue Dragon Classic. This past week in Tyler, the Dragons knocked off Missouri State-West Plains, a perennial NJCAA power, but which was only receiving votes, in five sets.

Polk State remains No. 1 in the national rankings, followed by Navarro, Miami-Dade, Seward County and New Mexico Military. The Dragons have already played three of the current national Top 5.

Incidentally, Indian Hills is now No. 7 in the NJCAA rankings this week.

Dodge City is Hutchinson's only match this week, but will play Pratt, No. 4 Seward County, Jefferson, Tyler, Indian Hills and MSU-West Plains next week.
