The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team swept Jayhawk Conference Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Sophomore Naomi Waithira was named the league's Player of the Week. Freshman Chiara Soergel was the league's Goalkeeper of the Week. This is Waithira's first career conference weekly honor. With Tuesday's award, Soergel has been named the league's GK of the Week three times.

Waithira, a sophomore from Nairobi, Kenya, continued her tremendous play with an 11-point week in two Blue Dragon victories.

Waithira had two goals and a career-high four assists for a career-high eight-point game in an 8-0 win over Hesston College. She then scored the game-winner and added an assist in a 6-0 win over Dodge City. Waithira now has 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in her last three games.

Waithira leads the KJCCC with 15 assists. Now with 29 career assists, Waithira is tied for fourth on the Blue Dragon all-time assist list.

Waithira is the first Blue Dragon to earn KJCCC Player of the Week honors this season.

Soergel, a freshman from Bensheim, Germany, earned season shutout Nos. 10 and 11 in a 2-0 week for the Blue Dragons.

Soergel didn't make a save in an 8-0 win at Hesston College and then had three saves in a 6-0 win over Dodge City.

Soergel is now 11-2 with 11 shutouts. She has a league-leading 0.25 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Soergel has already set the Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper record for shutouts and is second on the single-season list.

Both players are now eligible for NJCAA national honors. Those awards will be announced on Wednesday.
