DODGE CITY – Sophomore Sheena Nichol and freshman Brailey Moeder both had five-point games as the Blue Dragon Women's Soccer team remained in the hunt for a second-straight Jayhawk West championship on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragons started slowly, but scored eight goals in the final 58 minutes of the game to defeat Dodge City 8-0 at Dodge City's Memorial Stadium.

Hutchinson is now 12-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons are now within one victory of winning back-to-back conference championships. Hutchinson's final two games of the regular season will both be against its closest pursuing team, the Cloud County Thunderbirds. Hutch has a one-point lead over the Thunderbirds.

The first meeting will be in Hutchinson at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex. The second game will be at 1 p.m. on Monday in Concordia.

Nichol had her second career three assist game and scored her second career penalty kick to score five points against Dodge City. Moeder scored two goals and had an assist.

After a tight defensive struggle into the 33rd minute, freshman Kaitlyn Sabala earned the game-winning goal with she scored her sixth of the season from a Miykayla Moresco assist. Moeder scored her first of the game and 15th of the season, an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute for 2-0 Blue Dragon lead at halftime.

The Blue Dragons kept building momentum just 1:43 into the second half when freshman Hailey Burk scored from a Nichol corner kick for a 3-0 lead.

Taylor Godlove, Jasmine Blindt, Moeder and Moresco added second-half goals. Nichol had two more assists. Yadira Delgado and Moeder also had assists in the second half.

The Blue Dragons out-shot Dodge City, who lost to Hutchinson 8-0 on Sept. 20 at the Salthawk Sports Complex, 2908.

Blue Dragon sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Main (6-1-1) earned the win with one save. Freshman Clara Bergmuller played the final 27:28 and made one save. Dodge City keeper Courtney Turner finished with four saves.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons won their 16th consecutive game against Dodge City and now own a 17-1 overall series record over the Conquistadors. … Sheena Nichol now has 95 career points to move past Jenny Yukich into sixth place on the career points list. She is eighth with 36 career goals and 12th in team history with 20 career assists. … Nichol's penalty kick was the first of the season for the Blue Dragons. All-time, Hutchinson is 37 of 42 all-time on penalty kicks.
