COLBY – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team won its 17th-consecutive game over Colby and reached the 20-win mark on Tuesday night in an 80-41 victory over the Trojans at the Colby Event Center.

The Blue Dragons (20-7, 14-7 KJCCC) reached the 20-win mark for the 31st time in the program's 49-year history, doing so for the 14th in 16 seasons under head coach John Ontjes.

Hutchinson plays host to Northwest Tech at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Sports Arena. Colby is now 1-24 and 0-20.

Freshman Monae Duffy had her seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Duffy grabbed seven offensive rebounds that helped the Blue Dragons to a 17-2 advantage in second-chance points. Duffy was 9 of 21 shooting and she had three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

The Blue Dragon defense held Colby to 32.6 percent shooting and just 2 of 10 from 3-point range. The Dragons forced Colby in 29 an opponent season-high 29 turnovers. Hutchinson had a 27-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

The 41 points allowed are a Blue Dragon opponent season low.

Sophomore Kali Howard finished with 15 points on 7 of 12 shooting and six rebounds.

Sophomore Mya Williams moved into sole possession of second place on the Blue Dragon career scoring chart with 12 points, hitting 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Williams became just the second Blue Dragon player to surpass 1,100 career points. She now has 1,110.

Freshman Bree Horyna tied season highs with nine points and three 3-point goals.

The Blue Dragons shot 40.7 percent for the game (33 of 81), hitting 6 of 22 from 3-point range and 8 of 13 from the free-throw line. Hutchinson had a 43-31 rebounding advantage with 18 offensive rebounds. The Dragons had a season-high 19 steals. Leata Te Nana-Williams had a season-high five steals.

Aaliyah Chambers had 20 points to lead Colby. Peyton Pinkney finished with 12 points. The Trojans shot 14 of 43 overall, just 2 of 10 from distance and 11 of 16 from the free-throw line.

Tied at 2-all, the Blue Dragons used a quick 7-0 run to seize control of the game. Shooting 8 of 16 in the first quarter, the Dragons led 19-12 after 10 minutes. The Dragon offense cooled off to just 34.8 percent (8 of 23) shooting in the second quarter. Hutchinson finished off the half on an 8-2 run over the final 2:47 and led 37-22 at halftime.

The Blue Dragons left no doubt to the outcome with a 24-4 third quarter. Hutchinson scored the first 14 points of the quarter as Williams scored with 4:06 remaining to give the Dragons a 51-22 lead. Hutchinson's defense held Colby scoreless for the first 7 minutes, 11 seconds of the third quarter. A Horyna 3-pointer and Te-Nana Williams bucket in the final 37 seconds of the quarter gave Hutchinson a 61-26 lead after three quarters.

GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 57-14 all-time against Colby. … Mya Williams is 66 points shy of Kalani Purcell's career scoring record. She tied Heather Robben with 357 total field goals. … This was the 10th time this season the Blue Dragons have reached 60 points.
