Riding the wave of momentum from huge comeback victory on Wednesday in a pivotal Jayhawk Conference road game at Coffeyville, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team entertains the first-place Dodge City Conquistadors on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Tipoff for Spring Homecoming 2023 between the Blue Dragons (19-6) and No. 11 Conquistadors (22-2) is at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Dragon Sports Network stream the game beginning at 5:15 p.m. Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) will begin its broadcast at 5:15 p.m.

With five games remaining in the regular season, the Blue Dragons took a huge step in securing a spot in the top 4 of the KJCCC standings with a 68-63 victory over Coffeyville on Wednesday at Coffeyville. The Blue Dragons trailed by 18 points with 3:42 to play in the third quarter and outscored the Red Ravens 33-10 from that point on.

The victory over Coffeyville gives the Blue Dragons (13-6 in the KJCCC) a two-game lead over the Ravens for fourth place in the league standings and Hutchinson owns a key tie-breaker over Coffeyville with a season series sweep.

Dodge City is riding quite a wave of momentum with a 15-game winning streak. The first-place Conquistadors (17-1 in KJCCC) took a 2.5 game lead in the league on Wednesday with a 70-63 victory over second-place Butler in Dodge City. The Conquistadors knocked down 10 3-pointers and forced 24 turnovers. Leah Mafua had 14 points to lead four Dodge City players in double figures.

Hutchinson's 69-55 loss to Dodge City on December 10 is part of that 15-game winning streak. The Blue Dragons were stung by three big Dodge City runs in the first meeting. Hutchinson rallied back from the first two and trailed just 48-46 with 2:32 to play in he third quarter. Dodge City answered that challenge with a decisive 14-0 run over the next 4:52 of the game to take command.

Mya Williams had 22 points to lead the Blue Dragons. Jada Burton and Leah Mafua had 15 points each to lead Dodge City.

Williams has climbed to No. 3 on the Blue Dragon career scoring chart with 1,093 points. She is six points shy of moving past Jamie Patrick for No. 2 on the list.
