Hutchinson CC Sports Information

With the season down to six regular-season games remaining and still a good chuck of the Jayhawk Conference battling for one of the four coveted top four spots in the standings, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team faces a major week ahead.

Starting Wednesday, the Blue Dragons (18-6) travel to play at Coffeyville (15-9) in a battle of the No. 4 and No. 5 teams in the league. Then on Saturday, the Blue Dragons play host to first-place Dodge City at the Sports Arena.

But before Hutchinson can think about the Conquistadors, the Blue Dragons look for a much-needed season sweep of the Red Ravens in a 5:30 p.m. game on Wednesday at Nellis Hall in Coffeyville. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) at 5:15 p.m. The Raven Sports Network will provide the only video stream available free on YouTube.

Entering play on Wednesday, the Blue Dragons are 12-6 and in sole possession of fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Dragons trail third-place Barton by 1.5 games. Coffeyville is one game behind the Blue Dragons at 11-5. Seward County trails Coffeyville by one game and Cloud County is two games behind the Ravens.

Hutchinson goes after a season sweep of Coffeyville after earning a 64-46 victory over the Ravens in the first meeting of the season on December 7 at the Sports Arena. Mya Williams had a game-high 25 points and Hutchinson took advantage of a depleted Raven lineup because of injuries. Hutchinson forced 23 Coffeyville turnovers and held the Red Ravens to 31.9 percent shooting.

Both teams enter play on Wednesday coming off losses.

The Blue Dragons struggled from the free-throw line, missing 9 of 12 free throws in the first half in a 73-67 loss to No. 21 Butler on Saturday at the Sports Arena. Williams hit five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 22 points to move past Heather Robben (2009-10) into third place on the Blue Dragon career scoring list.

Coffeyville has dropped two games in a row to Butler and Barton, falling to the third-place Cougars 70-51 on Saturday in Great Bend. The Red Ravens are 10-3 this season in Nellis Hall with victories over Butler and Barton on their home floor.
