Back in the national rankings this week and riding a seven-game winning streak, the No. 25 Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team are on the road Wednesday for a key Jayhawk Conference matchup against Dodge City.

Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Student Activities Center in Dodge City.

The Blue Dragons (20-4, 14-4 KJCCC) are still in second place in the Jayhawk Conference, just one game behind first-place Independence. One-half game behind Hutchinson is Seward County and Garden City is in fourth place. Dodge City (14-9, 9-8) is tied for eighth place.

Behind 37 combined points from Tor'e Alford and Mya Williams, the Blue Dragons defeated Coffeyville 84-60 on Saturday at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons shot 13 of 25 from 3-point range against the Red Ravens and with the victory moved head coach John Ontjes into a third-place tie with Craig Brookover for most wins in both KJCCC and Region VI history with 414 wins.

This will be the fourth time the Blue Dragons have played in the newest home for Conquistador basketball. The Blue Dragons are 2-1 in the student events center, but two of the games were an offensive struggle, shooting 35.0 percent in 2020 and 39.2 percent in 2019.

The first meeting between Hutchinson and Dodge City this season was all Blue Dragons. Shooting 53.7 percent from the field, the Blue Dragons rolled by the Conquistadors 78-45 on December 11 in the Sports Arena. Alford and Kalyn Ervin finished with 18 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Blue Dragons. Dodge City shot only 30.6 percent for the game. Krystina Hagood was the only Conquistador in double figures with 14 points.

Dodge City has some impressive wins this season, including season sweeps of Butler and Cowley. The Conquistadors enter Wednesday's game after a 69-55 win on Saturday at Butler. Hagood hit 7 of 10-pointers and finished with 24 points. Dodge City held Butler to 30.9 percent shooting for the game.
