DRAGON PITCHERS COMBINE FOR BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Emily Munson, Kiersten Weitze and Riley Wertz combined for a two-hit shutout to start the Hutchinson Community College's KJCCC doubleheader with Northwest Tech on Wednesday at Fun Valley.

Sadie Loney, Morgan Pennycuff and Wertz then combined for a one-hit shutout of the Mavericks in the nightcap.

The Blue Dragons defeated Northwest Tech 10-0 and 10-0, both games ending in five innings to run their winning streak to four games in a row. The Blue Dragons travel to Garden City on Saturday and Barton on Monday. Hutchinson is now 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the KJCCC. Northwest Tech is now 2-18 overall and 2-8 in league play.

GAME 1 RECAP
Munson and Weitze allowed just one hit each as both worked two innings. Munson struck out one, while Weitze fanned two Mavericks. Wertz had two strikeouts in one inning of work. Weitze (5-1) was the winning pitcher.

The Blue Dragons offense gave the pitching trio plenty of run support with five runs in the opening inning. Natalie Bevan, Carley Sternecker, Wertz and Easton Swanson all had run-producing hits in the first inning.

The Blue Dragons had eight hits in the game. Wertz had the only extra-base hit, her first-inning RBI double. Wertz and Swanson were both 2 for 2 in Game 1. Wertz scored two runs and drove in one. Swanson had two RBIs. Madison Grimes was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

GAME 2 RECAP
Once again, the Blue Dragons pitchers were dominant.

Loney allowed a hit and walk in the first two innings. Pennycuff was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts in two innings. Wertz struck out two in her one inning of work.

Seven different Blue Dragons had one hit in the second game. Regan Gerber and Haley Miller both had doubles. Swanson had two RBIs. Bevan also drove in two runs.

The Blue Dragons scored five runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third inning.
