DRAGONS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 12 WITH SWEEP OF WARRIORS

STERLING – Maryssa Rollin and Taylor Ullery combined for three home runs and seven RBIs as the Hutchinson Community College softball team pushed its winning streak to 12 games with a doubleheader sweep of the Sterling College Junior Varsity on Wednesday in Sterling.

Rollin, who earlier in the day was named the NJCAA Division I National Softball Player of the Week, hit two home runs and drove in four as the Blue Dragons run-ruled Sterling 12-0.

Ullery then had a season-high four hits, including a homer and three RBIs in as the Blue Dragons defeated the Warriors 11-2. Ullery tied a single-game record with five runs scored.

Hutchinson improves to 22-14. The Blue Dragons will play the Tabor College JV at 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday at Fun Valley. This will be Hutchinson's final home games of the regular season and the 2019 sophomores will be honored between games.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Blue Dragons led just 2-0 through four innings before exploding for 10 runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.

After Alexis Way and Kiara DeCrane led off the fifth with singles, Rollin launched her second home run of the game for a three-run blast and a 5-0 lead. The Dragons took advantage of five Sterling errors in the inning. The Blue Dragons sent 14 batters to the plate and had six hits.

Rollin was 2 for 3 with two homers, her fifth and sixth of the season. She had four RBIs and now has 24 RBIs in her last seven games.

Ashley Wilson went 3 for 3 with a double, run scored and one RBI. Brynne Stockman went 2 for 3 with a double. Way was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Shelby Felvus was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

The Blue Dragons had 14 hits.

Rollin improved to 8-1 in the circle with a two-hit shutout. She retired 14 of the first 16 Sterling batters she faced before the Warriors loaded the bases with two out in the fifth. Rollin had four strikeouts and walked one in her first career shutout.

GAME 2 RECAP
Ullery is just the second Blue Dragon in team history to score five runs in a single game. She tied Kailey Jenkins for the Blue Dragon single-game record for runs scored. Jenkins scored five runs against Brown Mackie on March 9, 2014.

Ullery went 4 for 5 with two doubles and her sixth home run of the season. She reached base in all five plate appearances. She doubled in the first, hit a two-run home run in the second, doubled in the fourth, singled in the sixth and reached on an error in the seventh.

Hutchinson led just 5-1 through five innings before scoring three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

Wilson had an RBI double and sacrifice flies from DeCrane and Stockman gave the Dragons an 8-1 lead after sixth innings. The Dragons scored three runs in the seventh on a pair of Sterling errors and a couple of walks.

Way, Wilson, Stockman and Caitlin Schumacher had two hits each as Hutchinson racked up 15 total hits. Wilson had two doubles and two RBIs. DeCrane was 1 for 4, but had four RBIs.

Megan Davis improved to 9-7 with a complete game. She scattered seven hits and gave up two runs and one walk. Davis tied a career high with six strikeouts.
