Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's and men's cross country team run their second race of the 2022 season on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Blue Dragons will run in the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational at Mahoney Golf Course. The meet is jointly hosted by the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan University. The men's race begins at 10 a.m. and the women's race follows at 10:50 a.m.

This will be the first time that the Blue Dragons run at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational, which will be contested for the 32nd time.

Twenty-nine teams from all levels of college cross country will compete on Saturday. In addition to Hutchinson, Cloud County, Colby, Garden City, Iowa Central, Iowa Western, Kansas City, Northwest Tech, Pratt, Southwestern Iowa and Trinidad State are the junior colleges set to compete.

NCAA Division I programs Nebraska, Creighton, Nebraska-Omaha, Kansas, Kansas State, Wichita State, Air Force and Drake are entered, plus several NCAA Division II and III teams and NAIA programs will compete.

The Blue Dragon women come off a strong runner-up finish at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic on September 1 at Fun Valley. Hutchinson posted the top junior college performance at its home meet, which was a three-mile race.

A pair of Blue Dragon freshmen pace Hutchinson in the women's race at the Masterson Twilight. Serenity Larson finished fifth and ran the fastest Blue Dragon time at the Masterson ever with a mark of 18:21.92. Gracie Lambert placed 14th in a time of 19:09.7. All-American Louise Cocking was 18th with a time of 19:18.31.

The Blue Dragons will run at the standard women's 5,000 meters for the first time on Saturday. The men will run at the standard 8,000 meters.

Hutchinson's men placed 10th out of 19 teams to score at the Masterson Twilight.

Freshman Douwe Bentsink placed 28th overall to lead the Blue Dragons with a time of 21:32.23 over the four-mile course. Sophomore Carsyn Turpin, the Blue Dragons' lone returnee from last year, placed 43rd with a time of 21:56.18.
