GARDEN CITY – Freshman Dimetre Brown became the eighth Hutchinson Community College men's track and field entry into the upcoming NJCAA Outdoor Championships at Gowans Stadium after qualifying in the long jump on Friday at the Region VI Championships at Broncbuster Stadium.

Browne, who has fallen short of the national qualifying mark in the last three meets, finally qualified with a fifth-place effort on Friday. He unleashed a personal best jump of 23 feet, 9.5 inches, which is the seventh-best long jump in Blue Dragon history.

Brown was one of four Blue Dragon athletes to post PRs on Friday.

Brayden Peterson finished seventh in the javelin with a career-best throw of 142 feet, 11 inches.

Darrien Holloway ran a PR in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 14.93 seconds. That time was ninth best in prelims on Friday, just missing Saturday's finals.

Also setting a PR on Friday but not advancing to the finals was Davion Gardenhire in the 200 prelims. His time of 21.54 seconds with 15th in Friday's preliminary heats.

The Blue Dragons placed in one other event on Friday, finishing seventh in the 4x800-meter relay. The relay group of Andrew Holt, Aaron Geissinger, Camilo Tarin and Carsyn Turpin ran a season's-best time of 8:14.88.

Action continues on Saturday with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at Noon.
