BROWN, COOPER REACH PODIUM ON DAY 1 AT NJCAA

PITTSBURG – Freshman Dimetre Browne and sophomore Antonio Cooper both scored points on Friday for the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team on Day 1 of the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center.

Browne finished eighth in the men's long jump and Cooper was eighth in the shot put on Friday to account for the only points of Day 1 for Hutchinson. The Dragons are tied with Fort Scott for 24th place.

South Plains leads the men's team race after Day 1 with 39 points. Colby is second with 29 points and Barton is third with 27 points.

Browne uncorked a personal-best jump of 23 feet, 8.25 inches to earn a spot in the men's long jump finals. He re-established his PR in the event with a finals jump of 23-8.34 to finish eighth and earn NJCAA All-America honorable mention honors.

Browne's best jump is the second-best jump by a Blue Dragon in NJCAA Indoor Championship history. The jump ranks in a tie for seventh on the all-time Blue Dragon indoor chart in the long jump.

Cooper was the first Blue Dragon to score a point on Friday with an eighth-place finish in the shot put. Cooper had a top attempt of 51 feet, 7.75 inches. That was Cooper's second-best shot put of the season and it ranked as the fifth-best shot put by a Blue Dragon in NJCAA indoor history.

Freshman distance runner Collin Oswalt ran both of his events on Friday. Oswalt finished 16th in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 15:22.58. Oswalt placed 26th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:26.07.

Sophomore Cleydterrious Thompson posted a time of 6.85 seconds in the 60-meter preliminaries. He did not qualify for Saturday's 60-meter finals.

The Blue Dragons will have only one event on Saturday, the final event of the day. The Blue Dragons will run in the 4x400 Relay, which is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. at the Plaster Center.
