OVERLAND PARK – The Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team won two individual events and two relays on Friday night at the KC Night Relays at the Johnson County Fieldhouse.

Freshman Richard Newman matched his performance from opening weekend with victories in the high jump and long jump. The Dragons also won the 4x400 and Distance Medley Relays.

The Blue Dragons didn't earn any new NJCAA indoor national meet qualifiers, but have seven through the first two weeks of the 2018 indoor season.

Newman matched his nation-leading clearance in the high jump, winning the event at 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches. He also matched his top long jump of the season, going 23-3 1/2 to win that event. Already national qualifier in both events, Newman has four event wins so far this season.

Running relays for the first time this season, the Blue Dragons won the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:24.20. The Dragons won the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 11:01.32.

The Blue Dragons had 10 other Top 3 finishes on Friday:

+ Tre'Juan Cash placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds. He was third in the triple jump with a leap of 42-3 1/2.

+ Kadrin Williams posted the top 60-meter time in the preliminaries and then finished second in the finals with a time of 6.87 seconds.

+ Myles Hansen was second in the pole vault going 13-3 1/2.

+ Alex Grays was second in the 200 meters in a time of 22.72 seconds.

+ D.J. Norman placed second in the high jump going 6-4 3/4.

+ Michael Bryan tied for second in the 35-pound weight throw at 46-10.

+ Garet Johnson was third in the shot put at 45-7.

+ Connor Kaufman placed thirds in the mile run with a time of 4:35.16.

+ Denilson Whitmore was third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.03 seconds.

The Blue Dragons next compete at the Jayhawk Invitational next Friday in Lawrence.
