MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Charlie Herbert fired a 3-under 69 in the second round on Monday to lead the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team at the Missouri Southern Fall Classic at Shangri-La Golf Club.
Herbert helped the Blue Dragons post a 36-hole score of 1-under 575, which ties St. Mary's (TX) for third place.
The final 18 holes tee off Tuesday morning.
Hutchinson opened the tournament with a 3-under 285 on Monday with Peyton Austin leading the way with a 4-under 68. The Dragons had a 2-over 290 in the afternoon round. Hutchinson trails team leader Southeast Oklahoma State by 12 strokes. Southeast had rounds of 282 and 281. Oklahoma Christian is second at 8-under 268.
Herbert started his day with an even-par 72 and then shot a 69 in the second round. That was Herbert's second round of under 70. Herbert is six shots off the lead of Southeast Oklahoma's Zach James who is at 9-under 135.
Charlie Crockett had another solid day for the Blue Dragons. He had rounds of 69 and 73 and is tied for fifth after 36 holes at 2-under 135.
Austin is tied for eighth at 1-under 143. Austin opened his tournament with a season-low round of 68. He closed with a 75.
Nathan McCulloch is tied for 30th at 5-over 149 (76-73). Camron Probert is tied for 43rd at 9-over 153 (78-75). Max Ontjes is 62nd over at 165 (82-83).
